This charming little set caught my eye on a recent visit to the Lego store. I’m always on the lookout for parts packs, and this one looked to have a nice mix of ‘city’ elements and a good price per piece ratio. Continue reading 40154 Pencil Pot

They aren’t new anymore, but I just picked mine up recently, so I figured that I should talk about the second incarnation of the Infernites. If you’re like me, you might have written off this trio as a rehash, but don’t be so quick to dismiss. Continue reading Infernites (Series 4 Mixels)

It’s no secret that I’m kind of in love with this Elves theme. Though I’m not the target audience, these colorful fantasy sets are well designed and have tons of beautiful elements. I’m not alone on this one. It seems like most of the AFOLs that I know are talking about this theme and drooling over some element or another. Since this is the set that we will be drafting at the next PortLUG meeting, I figured that it was high time that I reviewed Naida’s Epic Adventure Ship.
I’m a little bit in love with the 8×8 vignettes that Lego is putting out for this year’s seasonal sets. I saw a picture of the Easter set in the back of the instructions for the Valentine’s Day set and I had to have it. Sadly every visit to the Lego Store came up empty. They were selling out as fast as they arrived. I finally decided to buy online from shop.lego.com, but they were sold out too. I must admit that I had given up until I walked into the store last week to find a whole shelf of them. I bought four without hesitation. Continue reading 40121 Painting Easter Eggs

Since I’ve been back in the hobby, Lego hasn’t really produced any themes that have had me jumping up and down. Chima comes pretty close, with its beast mecha and science fantasy setting. As a result, my taste in sets often revolves around the elements and techniques that they contain. That said, the new Elves theme is amazing!

As the Mixels enter their second year, Lego seems to be struggling to find their footing design wise. This fourth wave of sets takes some interesting chances, which work to varying degrees. I have some nostalgia for glow-in-the-dark toys, so I snapped up the Glowkies as soon as I saw them all in the store.

This last weekend I took a trip up to Seattle. While I was there, I took in the local Lego stores to see what regional treasures there were to find. Sadly, the Pick-A-Brick walls were a bit disappointing. As a consolation, I did pick up one of the new Mixel tribes and assemble them on the train ride home.

This year’s seasonal sets are a nice departure from the cute animals sets that Lego produced last year. Each set is an 8×8 vignette with a pair of minifigures in an appropriate setting. Kicking off the line is this interestingly mature Valentine’s Day Dinner.

I’ve been a fan of the Friends line for a while now. Every season, Lego releases new and amazing sets in these pink boxes. The elements alone are worth the purchase (and oh so perfect for drafting). Needless to say, when I saw pictures of this set surface on the internet, I began to salivate.

I’ve been excited about the wave of new Ideas sets based on original concepts, and the latest Birds set is no exception. I had voted for the set, so I was very excited when it got the requisite 10,000 votes and was approved to become an official set. I braved the mad crowds at my local Lego store on New Years Day and bought myself a copy.
